Apple has expanded its laptop lineup with a touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook, nearly a decade after the company introduced the Touch Bar. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, the laptops start at $2,899 and $3,399 respectively for M5 Pro configurations. Both models feature the new PROLED XDR Display, offering a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio alongside 2,000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content. Under the hood, buyers can choose between M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, paired with up to 128GB of unified memory; storage configurations reach up to 16TB on M5 Max models.

To ensure stability during physical interaction, the laptop incorporates a redesigned hinge that prevents the screen from moving when touched, which also keeps the camera steady during video calls. Apple replaced the traditional display notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout. Audio performance receives an upgrade through a six-speaker system equipped with redesigned woofers for clearer sound reproduction.

Despite adding touch functionality, the new machines are lighter than previous non-touch generations, with the 14-inch model weighing 3.0 pounds (1.38 kg) and the 16-inch version weighing 4.0 pounds (1.82 kg). Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe charging, and a headphone jack. External display output depends on processor selection, supporting up to three monitors on M5 Pro configurations and up to four on M5 Max models.
