Anthropic has introduced a research preview of its new browser-based AI agent, Claude for Chrome. This release gives selected users early access to enhanced AI-driven browsing. The rollout is limited to 1,000 subscribers of Anthropic’s Max plan, priced at $100–$200 per month. A waitlist is available for additional users.
Claude appears in a sidecar window through the Chrome extension, preserving context throughout browsing sessions. Users can enable permissions for the agent to perform certain tasks within the browser. This signals Anthropic’s entry into the fast-evolving race to integrate AI directly into browsing experiences. Competitors are also advancing in this field. Perplexity recently launched its Comet browser, while OpenAI and Google are working on similar solutions.
Anthropic emphasizes security. The company notes that browser-based AI agents introduce new safety concerns, including prompt-injection attacks where hidden website code could trigger malicious actions. According to the company, its protective measures have already lowered the success rate of these attacks from 23.6% to 11.2%. Claude is blocked from high-risk sites by default. Users must grant permission before carrying out sensitive actions, including publishing or sharing personal information.
